Whata Kura

12 Jun – 25 Jul

Whata Kura In celebration of Matariki toi māori takes centre stage.

An exhibition showcasing treasured artworks from the Te Wānanga o Aotearoa art collection, Te Kōpuni Kura, alongside works by selected Wintec tutors.

The exhibition title Whata Kura derives from the term Whata Kai, which refers to large, elevated platforms used for displaying food during important feasts. Symbolic of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga, the adaptation of this term to Whata Kura acknowledges the bringing together of communities to elevate toi māori as a source of nourishment and inspiration. Under the mantle of the Matariki new year, this exhibition creates a space for reflection, sharing, and learning.
