Ukupapa Workshop with Dorothy Waetford: Whanaungatanga, Shellac Resist, Water Etching

Ngā Kaihangu Uku & Friends at Driving Creek
This uku workshop fosters whanaungatanga (the process of establishing relationships) through collective making and conversation. Participants will learn how to use shellac resist and water etching to create textured surfaces, incorporating personal narratives into their clay pieces.

The influence of Māori Artists and Writers and Ngā Puna Waihanga, later led to Ngā Kaihanga Uku Māori Clay Workers Collective and Te Ātinga Contemporary Māori Visual Arts committee of Toi Māori Aotearoa.
Living on the coast at Matapouri Bay, Dorothy exhibits work regularly, and supports the aspirational, cultural advocacy and agency of Toi Ngāpuhi.
