Trio Obscura Classical Concert

Te Awamutu Concerts Alive! are pleased to present Trio Obscura: Principal Viola & Oboe, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra accompanied by Sarah Watkins
Te Awamutu Concerts Alive! are pleased to present Trio Obscura: Principal Viola and Oboe from Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, accompanied by Sarah Watkins. The programme includes Klughardt’s ‘Schilflieder’ (Song of the Reeds) with Five Fantasy Pieces (op. 28), American composer Alyssa Morris with ‘The Big Questions’, Loeffler’s Two Rhapsodies for oboe, viola and piano and finally Kiwi composer Janet Jennings with her evocative ‘Five Emotional States’.
Trio Obscura lives up to its name because music for oboe, a viola and a piano is rare indeed. This programme showcases the wonderful musicality and lyricism that emerges when these three instruments come together with new creative ideas that offer a sense of hope in today’s turbulent times.
Our high calibre performers add further authenticity to the programme. Pianist Sarah Watkins is a prolific collaborator and currently lectures in music at Auckland University. Bede Hanley is the principal oboist with the Auckland Philharmonia, has performed internationally and is in demand as a soloist. Robert Ashworth is principal viola with the Auckland Philharmonia and has been a guest principal violist for orchestras around the world.
