Treasures in the Landscape - The Arts House Trust in the Sculpture garden
A rare opportunity to experience exeptional New Zealand sculpture!
Treasures in the Landscape – Sculptures from The Arts House Trust Collection (14 December 2024 – 4 May 2025) We are pleased to announce a collaboration between The Arts House Trust and The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum, enabling a unique exhibition of sculpture made by New Zealand artists.
Over the past 30 years, The Arts House Trust acquired an extensive collection of major sculptures. Its collection contains works from many established NZ artists, some have not been on public display since their acquisition. This is a rare opportunity for the public and sculptors alike to experience them out in the open again.
The exhibition runs from 14 December 2024 – 4 May 2025, when a selection of 30 sculptures will be displayed within the captivating landscape of The Sculpture Park & Arboretum. The exhibition features works made by Paul Dibble, Terry Stringer, Brett Graham, Greer Twiss, and many other well-regarded NZ artists. In conjunction with the exhibition, there will also be organized presentations and workshops to engage the public and create a meaningful sculptural dialogue and meeting point, in the unique landscape the park and arboretum offers.
The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum is an established sculpture park and creative destination located to the east of Hamilton. It opened to the public in November 2004 and now attracts up to 10,000 national and international visitors annually. Its unique setting and landscape offers an engaging environment to showcase sculpture. Since 2005, curatorial innovation and excellence has enabled over 25 successful exhibitions alongside other arts events.
The park draws a range of age groups to walk along its 2km art-in-nature trail. Now run by the Art-in-Nature Arboretum Trust, the park is a regional resource for inspiring creativity, biodiversity and land rehabilitation. This 42 acre former derelict quarry is a restoration project that has taken more than 30 years to grow into a mature arboretum.
If you haven’t been for a while, to get a glimpse of the park, please see the recent Seven Sharp feature on TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAy8qb53j84 or better still, come for a visit.
