Toi Raranga Kupu: Weaving Words into Zines | Matariki Series

Create a collaborative handmade zine grounded in voice, reflection, poetry, and expression.
Toi Raranga Kupu: Weaving Words into Zines
A creative Matariki wānanga exploring voice, language, renewal, poetry, and collaborative handmade zine creation.
Facilitated by experienced and renowned writers Dr Marama Salsano and Hāwea Apiata, this workshop supports participants to shape words, images, memory, and reflection into a handmade zine.
For first timers, you will learn a bit about the history of zines, different types of zines, and work through a series of poetic exercises to create at least one handmade zine with new lines of poetry.
Zines are small, powerful, self-published works that can hold story, protest, whakapapa, humour, poetry, art, and personal truth. In this session, participants will be guided through creative prompts and hands-on making to create a zine grounded in personal reflection and Te Ao Māori expression.
This wānanga is for adults of all creative confidence levels. You do not need to identify as a writer or artist to attend.
