Go Eco (Waikato Environment Centre) are hosting a series of events and workshops to Derail Consumerism.
Watch “The True Cost” documentary with Go Eco & G-Gees, while taking actions for garment workers’ rights.
About “The True Cost” “This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?”.
About the hosts: Go Eco is the Waikato’s largest environment hub and is based in Frankton, Kirikiriroa. The Fashion Industry is the world’s 3rd largest polluter, and responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions. It is being fueled by Fast Fashion which is “a business model based on stealing high fashion designs to mass manufacture and sell them as low quality low price products with unimaginable costs to people and the planet”. G-Gee’s vision is to “make sustainable fashion the fashion of choice” and their mission is bringing “loud, proud and pocketed” to sustainable fashion. Their range of up-cycled clothing includes designs for different body shapes, ensuring that it is inclusive and one-of-a-kind. Gina, the designer behind G-Gee’s, holds social and ethical issues close to her heart along with a love and respect for nature and a developing obsession with using textile “waste”.
Guided by our vision of healthy environments and thriving communities Go Eco are hosting a series of events to Derail Consumerism, and the impact of Fast Fashion.
