The Art of Hamilton Gardens

The Art of Hamilton Gardens will present many and varied aspects and interpretations of Hamilton Gardens.
The official opening ceremony for the Hamilton Gardens was held on 24 July 1960. Sixty-six years later Hamilton Gardens boasts 18 ‘concept’ gardens and a burgeoning international reputation that draws over a million visitors every year. It is noted as a world-class destination site. Although there are innumerable photographs taken and shared, there is currently no art-inspired representation of this iconic installation. Artists such as Monet, Matisse, Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pissarro, Bosch, Kahlo and Klimt all studied and painted gardens of note. Building on the pastiche created by these and many other great artists, the Welcome Swallow Gallery is holding an exhibition entitled The Art of Hamilton Gardens that will open 17th April 2026 and run until 5th June. We anticipate that the exhibition will be one of the ‘must see’ events of 2026, cementing further gravitas that the gardens bring to the Waikato, New Zealand beyond.
The aim of this exhibition is to present many and varied aspects and interpretations of Hamilton Gardens, creating unique insights that will form an original art narrative. The exhibition is sponsored by the Montana Catering Group and is fully supported by The Hamilton Gardens.
The noted artists invited to participate in this exhibition have won numerous awards. Their work has been seen and sold on the global stage. Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see the Hamilton Gardens represented by many art genres, including the following; Photo, hyper-realism; Impressionist; Post impressionist; Abstract expressionist; Expressive; Magical Realism; Graphite sketches; Botanical; Romantic realism; Embroidery.
