Susie Pascoe | The Dark in the Light - A Potentiality

Textile artist Susie Pascoe presents work created over an eleven-year period - an exploration of the dark in the light.
This exhibition is an exploration – a metaphysical search in the dark – of what can be revealed and what is hidden. To the artist, these works explore personal ecological grief, the stillness and solace found in the dark, and darkness as a place that reveals light.
This exhibition contains work created over an eleven year period; an experiment with textiles on a journey to discover a personal creative voice. Some of Susie Pascoe’s contemporary textiles were also seen last year in the landmark Boro exhibition at Morrinsville Gallery, which showcased the Japanese textile collection of Pip Steel.
Susie uses a variety of cottons in her process, including some vintage examples – marked by years of wear and use. Susie says that through her work she hopes to convey comment about “how we see ourselves in relationship to the world”.
“For me, within the creative process itself, there is some sort of indefinable link to the potentiality that states of dark and light hold. This sense of potentiality provides an impetus to continue developing my work.”
