Silver Clay - create a unique pair of earrings

15 Nov

Join with Marcia to learn new skills with the amazing medium of Silver Clay

The amazing material of silver clay is not often heard about in Aotearoa/NZ.  Luckily we have Marcia to share her skills and wonderful creativity with workshop participants.  Marcia discovered silver clay in the United States and has been developing her own techniques with the material for many years, making beautiful pieces of silver jewellery.

Developed by a jeweller who wanted to prevent waste of precious metals, tiny filings of silver are gathered and combined with a clay base.  The clay can be molded and shaped but when fired it burns away leaving the silver which fuses in the kiln holding the shape of the clay object.  This is a very versatile material as it combines the ability to shape clay with the end result of silver.

In this workshop each participant will work with their own piece of silver clay, enough to make a pair of earrings.  Whether you have some experience with silver clay or are a complete beginner, Marcia will guide you through the process of shaping your earrings and creating beautiful surface textures.

Don’t miss the opportunity to create a unique piece of jewellery, perfect for summer parties or bbqs. Alternatively, create a very personal gift for someone special this Christmas.
