You won’t want to miss this kaleidoscopic series of orchestral vignettes, showcasing the rich and lyrical textures of the romantic orchestra.
Setting the scene is Douglas Lilburn’s Overture: Aotearoa – shimmering and triumphant – paired with Anthony Ritchie’s equally vibrant and lyrical Flute Concerto. Gabrielle Fauré’s melancholy yet hopeful Pavane provides a poignant contrast to Walton’s ever-popular Crown Imperial – Coronation March.
The programme ends with two indulgently lush mini masterworks from Holst and Hindemith: full of life, colour and humour. Join us for a pre-concert talk at 1.45pm, illuminating the stories behind the music.
