“Tales from the Pā Harakeke” is a show about Patupaiarehe (Fairy) creature Te Rito and her best friends Tui the Tui bird and Tapu the Pā Dog.

featuring Patupaiarehe Fairy Creature Te Rito & Best friends Tūī & Tapu the Pā Dog.

We’d like to bring our bilingual Te Reo Māori-English show to the Waipa community and share with the
audience the importance of Harakeke and its uses in Te Ao Māori (our Māori World) collaborated alongside international puppeteer Ifat Vayner, original compositions by Awatea Newton and Oriwa Morgan Ward. After Each show- we’d like to engage the audience in a workshop and teach the participants how they can use puppets to tell stories.

Our Show is family friendly and time allowed for photos with Karetao and Q&A.
Te Rito is a story about a few of the traditional customs practised by Maori when harvesting harakeke. It is a new story created by the Artistic collective Āio: Awatea, Oriwa and Ifat about the eagerness of the young to be grown. It is a musical show for the whole family.
It tells the tale of Te Rito’s woes of being the youngest and being left behind as the rest of her whanau are taken to live their ultimate life as woven objects. The show includes live music and puppetry and is suitable for the whole family to enjoy.
