'Outside at Dusk' Exhibition by Helena Skerlj-Rovers
Opening Event Saturday 9th December 1pm - 3pm.
Helena Skerlj-Rovers is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. She graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts with a BFA (First Class Honours) in 2021. Working primarily in the field of painting and more recently in rug making, Helena’s practice is largely driven by an exploration of colour and gesture, which predominantly lies in the realm of abstraction.
This body of work brings the suggestion of dream-like fantasy and abstracted landscapes, while simultaneously drawing more representation into the picture than in previous works. This is most apparent in the rug, and more subtly in the paintings with traces of traditional still life subject matter and composition emerging throughout the series.
