One Night in Lockdown

Nov 3 – 5, 2022

One Night in Lockdown is a gritty and confronting new tragi-comedy by Hamilton playwright Owen Mooney.

After Jason’s work party is interrupted by a lockdown alert, he arrives home with his wife Louisa who is somewhat worse for wear. He then discovers she has invited his new colleague Gabriel and his wife Jessica to stay in their bubble. Tension start to build almost immediately when the visitors arrive bringing an unexpected and unwelcome baby. Also Jason has been less than friendly with Gabriel.

Secrecy and sex, ambition and avarice, death and dysfunction echo within tight rooms of this play.

The play explores the impact of concealed trauma and grief resulting from both recent and long past tragic events. As events and issues surface, other unexpected underlying events also surface. The play reveals aftereffects of childhood abuse and poor marital communication, these having been compounded by badly managed grief.

The surfacing of truths and painful memories result in all characters being profoundly affected during this one night. Jason says to Gabriel: “And someday, in the string of events of your life, there will come one event that will define you. That event will be bigger than anything else. It may make you better, a more whole person, or it may make you into more of a d******* than you are.”

One Night in Lockdown is a gritty and confronting new tragi-comedy by Hamilton playwright Owen Mooney. Directed by Mooney, the energetic cast of Our Theatre Company deliver a show which does not flinch in the face of often-hidden harms and contemporary trials.
