Maladaptive — Megan Campbell

Exhibiting: 15 May – 6 June, 2026

“In the era of optimisation, resilience and personal growth, Maladaptive confronts uncomfortable truths that not all responses to adversity lead us forward.

Maladaptive explores the beauty, tension and chaos that arise when systems and processes fail to adapt. It also confronts the unintended consequences of survival mechanisms gone awry. Rather than offering neat resolutions or diagnoses, the artworks in Maladaptive dwell in the ambiguity of lived experience. It is about the patterns we repeat, the walls we build, the rituals we cling to. Behaviours and schema often seen as dysfunctional yet rooted in a deep need for safety and meaning.

Maladaptive opens space for difficult emotions, imperfect processes, contradictory patterns and the quiet, ongoing work of survival. Ultimately, Maladaptive asks what it means to be unfit for the world as it is or to reject the world’s definition of ‘fit’ altogether.”
