Lunchtime Recital Series at the University of Waikato Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts

Shades of Love is a 50 – minute program in which Kirstin shares some of her most favorite songs spanning the romantic and modern eras. Cinco Canciones Negras are featured on Kirstin’s album PASIÓN, with pianist Paolo André Gualdi, in which Kirstin explores several of the most beloved song sets of the Spanish music literature. These five amazing, almost humorous songs from Spanish composer Xavier Montsalvatge illuminate shades of love for a city, a woman, a young child, and a native culture. The selection of French songs were chosen for their sublime melodic beauty (no surprise with composers like Debussy and DuParc!) and for the many ways they express love. And an exploration of love would not be complete without a venture to the music of two of the most famous opera femmes fatales: Carmen and Dalila! Finally, love and nostalgia in some beloved, well-known popular songs of the 20 th century: La Vie en Rose, Over the Rainbow, and Sabor a mi. Come to enjoy lovely, enchanting melodies, feel-good poetry, and warm company!
