‘Live from The Meteor: an ANZAC Broadcast’

25 Apr

Hamilton City Brass presents a special wartime radio-style concert

We invite you to join us on ANZAC Day to step back in time and experience the spirit of ANZAC through the stirring sounds of brass.  Presented in the style of a World War II radio broadcast, Live from The Meteor: An ANZAC Broadcast will take you on a journey of remembrance, courage, and camaraderie.

Under the baton of Musical Director Todd Smith, Hamilton City Brass will bring history to life with a powerful programme of music that captures the emotions of wartime – from resilience and hope to nostalgia and pride.

Experience the stirring melodies and nostalgic favourites that inspired, entertained, and uplifted a generation.  The thrilling Aces High by Ron Goodwin sets the scene with its powerful theme from Battle of Britain, evoking the bravery of wartime pilots.  Jazz favourite Sweet Georgia Brown brings a touch of lively spirit, just as it once entertained troops and lifted morale. No wartime broadcast would be complete without the big band sounds of Glenn Miller, and our Glenn Miller Special medley will transport you back with classics like In The Mood, Moonlight Serenade, and Chattanooga Choo Choo.

Eric Coates’ The Dam Busters March is instantly recognisable and synonymous with wartime heroism, while A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square captures the romance and longing of the era in a beautiful ballad. The hauntingly moving Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber offers a moment of reflection and remembrance, contrasting with the lively and patriotic Colonel Bogey on Parade by Kenneth J. Alford.  Adding a special highlight to the concert, our Musical Director, Todd Smith, will put down his baton and take centre stage to dazzle us with a virtuosic performance of Harry James’ Concerto for Trumpet.

Adding to the atmosphere, vocalists Jack Turner, Zachary Clarke, and Brooke Ottaway will join the band for select numbers, bringing their vocal talents to the performance.

This concert offers a perfect opportunity to reflect and pay tribute to the heroes of the past through the power of music. With limited seating available, don’t miss your chance to be part of this special event.  Secure your tickets now – this is a concert not to be missed!
