The works invite attention to the movement of light, the traces of time, and the relationships between bodies and their surroundings.

Stellar Garden is an open-ended experiment in perception, exploring the possibility of a unified field in which consciousness, matter and energy are interconnected. Through camera-less photography, light-gathering processes and playful experiments with perception and place, the project considers how the cosmological might be encountered through the local, and how we might orient ourselves toward coherence through contemplation, embodiment and co-creation.

Rather than offering answers, Stellar Garden creates space to pause and attune, allowing memory and desire to meet through imagination, and offering a possibility for practising the futures we want to inhabit.

Lisa Benson (b. 1966, Aotearoa New Zealand) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the perceptual, material, and temporal dimensions of light. She explores perception and vision, fragility and resilience through evanescence and embodied participation. She gathers light with antique analogue photographic technology, and plays in time, embracing failure, chaos and humour to explore love, synchronicity and what it is to be human in this time of exponential transformation.
