Landscape Felting Workshop

17 Nov

Join Megan for a fun workshop where you'll create a landscape inspired by the park.

Megan was brought up on a remote sheep farm in the north Wairarapa where her mother taught her all forms of woolcraft.  She also spent many hours as a roustabout working in the woolshed with her father.  This imbued her with a love of all things sheepy and woolly.  Megan went on to a career in Earth Sciences, specialising in soil science and Antarctic permafrost which gave her a deep understanding and appreciation of landscapes.

In this workshop Megan will combine both passions to share the magic of making felt – a fabric that can be simply made from raw wool.  Felt is a versatile and sustainable fabric that can be shaped and massaged into many forms.  Megan will help participants make a small felt that seeks to capture the essence of a chosen aspect of the Waitakaruru landscape.

The result could be made into a wall hanging, a book mark, a cushion cover, or similar object.  No experience is required and the simple tools and materials will be provided.
