Ka whawhai tonu mātou Ake, Ake, Ake! Exhibition

An exhibition based on events leading up to the final battle at Ō-Rākau 1864 between Māori and the invading British Military.

This exhibition features photographs by Cinzia Jonathan and costumes by Te Ora Taripo-Hoskins from the film ‘Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End’ directed by Michael Jonathan and produced by Piripi Curtis.

It also showcases the main historical figures of the invasion during 1864, highlights the 1925 and 1940’s films by Rayald and Ramai Hayward, film character tūpuna connected to Māori descendants of those that fought at Ō-Rākau, and back story of how some of the crew worked on the contemporary film.

On show from 26th October 2024 – 30th April 2025.

Exhibition open Monday – Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday and Public Holidays – 10am-2pm.
