It’s here! A Whare Hau Tutū & tiAki raranga collaboration :

Becoming Friendly with Muka – an introduction to muka, the fibre of harakeke.

This is the Kaupapa so many have been asking for – and Julz has [finally] said yes [again]!

A wānanga offering a gentle pathway into tupuna techniques of extracting muka and miro.

We will mahi as a small roopu learning together and holding space for each other – laughter and whanaungatanga compulsory.

A hands-on introduction, whanau will become familiar with the essence of muka—its whakapapa, its uses, and the tikanga around harvesting and preparing it. We will kōrero traditional and contemporary methods of extraction and miro.

By the end of the wānanga you will have:

the confidence to identify and harvest muka harakeke

an understanding of tikanga-based harvesting practices

the foundational skills to extract and prepare muka

your own prepared muka ready to begin a muka tāhei toi

a supportive roopu you can continue to learn and grow with in future mahi

Limited spaces available!

This Kaupapa is currently only open to those who have completed the

Contemporary Tāhei Toi Kaupapa with Julz through Whare Hau Tutū.
