Gabriel Faure's Requiem

12 Aug, 2023

Cantando Choir and soloists present Gabriel Faure's "Requiem" and shorter Faure pieces accompanied by organ, piano and string ensemble.

Hamilton’s winter concert season sees Cantando Choir presenting the much-loved Requiem by French composer, Gabriel Fauré. Cantando’s Musical Director, Kolitha Jayatunge, has drawn together a small chamber ensemble to accompany the choir in this beautiful sacred work, with talented local pianist, Jonathan Dunlop, and well-known Auckland organist, Dr Philip Smith, completing the instrumental lineup. Breony Bearman is the soprano soloist and Arana Ashby the bass.

In addition to the well-known Requiem, the programme includes several shorter choral pieces by the composer, Pavane Op. 50 and Cantique de Jean Racine among them. Jonathan joins Melody Gumbley on violin and cellist Yotam Levy to present the Piano Trio in D minor.

This concert will be an evening of sumptuous melody, brought to you by talented local and national musicians, and a choir excited to be sharing this lovely music with their audience. Mark the date on your calendar and get your tickets now!
