Coromandel Open Studios Arts Tour
2022 Coromandel Open Studios Arts Tour October 1st/2nd and 8th/9th 2022
This popular event was first held in 2006. This year’s event coincides with the school holiday period, with a full nine days of interesting options for arts enthusiasts. The Coromandel Town area has an enviable reputation as a notable New Zealand centre of arts and crafts, and for the talented and welcoming artists who call this area home.
This year 36 local artists are opening their studios – visitors can meet them in person, and gain a greater insight into what they do and how they do it. Their high quality work covers a wide range of media including painting, ceramics, glass, screen printing, textiles, sculpture, jewellery and creative woodwork. All the Tour events are free to the public.
An exhibition of all the participating artists’ works will be held at Hauraki House (turn right at the dairy at the north end of the town shops) from the opening night (Friday 30th Sept) through to October 9th. The exhibition opening will held at 5pm (drinks & nibbles provided) and everybody is welcome. It’s a great opportunity to meet the artists and view their work. Most of our artists have studios in or close (ie 5 minutes drive) to Coromandel Town, with some a little further north via a pleasant coastal drive to Colville (with it’s own local attractions) and a little beyond. In the town itself, groups of participating artists will be working and displaying their work at ‘The Hub’ (1740 Ring’s Rd – old hospital building) and the recently opened collective ‘Gallery 6’ at the north end of the main street. Some artists will have their studios open over the full 9 days of the event – just look out for the flags.
