Common Thread brings together a series of embroidery works from Alice Alva’s ongoing investigation of textile drawings. Alva’s work unravels traditional embroidery functions and processes, where textiles are still viewed as marginal disciplines. These small-format works consider the often intimate, economic realities of craft-based practices – the peripheral nature of textile work within the broader value-system of visual culture.
