CMNZ Series Calefax

18 Sep

Hailing from the Netherlands, the reed quintet brings an innovative programme that highlights their virtuosic brilliance and incredible showmanship.

A classical ensemble with a pop mentality, Calefax holds a reputation for energetic stage performances, impeccable musicianship, and engaging repertoire and this concert will be no exception. Lyrical and dreamy fantasias by Bach and Schubert, and Debussy’s Suite Bergamasque – including crowd favourite Clair de lune – are guaranteed to leave audiences breathless. Works by Dutch composers Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and Robert Zuidam complement these beautifully, and the quintet’s critically-acclaimed rendition of Gershwin’s An American in Paris is sure to be a crowd favourite.
Calefax are honoured to perform the world premiere of as the mountain folds itself to sleep composed by Auckland-based Rosie Langabeer.
