Artist in Residence - Marcus Tatton

Wood carver and sculptor Marcus Tatton joins the team at The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum as artist in residence for two months.
Marcus Tatton returned from Australia and immediately set to work creating a beautiful installation work at The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum. Marcus used trees felled by cyclone Gabrielle to create “The Portal”. “The Portal” symbolises the shift from one state, of loss and destruction, to another of renewal and future stories. Visitors are encouraged to step through the portal while considering their own personal movement between spaces, both physical and symbolic.
We now welcome Marcus as he joins Waitakaruru as Artist in Residence. Spending two months working within the arboretum, Marcus will draw inspiration from this unique space. Visitors to The Sculpture Park will be able to see Marcus as he creates a body of work. They can talk with him about his sculptural journey and learn more about his wood-working techniques.
Marcus will be hosting workshops while resident in The Sculpture Park. A one-day workshop will allow participants to create and carve their own stool. In a longer, weekend workshop, Marcus invites people to suggest their own project personalising their space. Marcus will then work alongside participants to realise their ideas.
Don’t miss this opportunity to visit Marcus and take part in these great workshops.
