Curator’s Statement
Welcome to our show! You will find a mix of media and memento’s and family taonga, all pulled together and presented in this group exhibition by almost all of our present gallery volunteers – and a handful of past volunteers. The intention of this show was to create a greater connection within our group, to bring us all together and show each other (and the public), who we are, we are artists, daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, crafts people, story tellers and above all helpers.
We hope to raise the profile of volunteering at the gallery and elsewhere in Morrinsville and greater Waikato and to incite interest and curiosity from the public about the benefits of volunteering. Ultimately, we also mean to celebrate ourselves and our vital role in keeping this very precious place open and free for all to enjoy. We are proud to stake claim as essential ingredients in this very important cultural hub for the Morrinsville community and the greater Waikato.
As with running the gallery this show came together thanks to many hands, thank you to all that approached the idea in such a supportive way and who lent a hand during the process.
